Sioux Center Health Welcomes General Surgeon Dr. Catherine Christen
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa — Sioux Center Health is pleased to welcome board-certified General Surgeon Dr. Catherine Christen to its surgical team. She joins Dr. Nicholas Mouw and Dr. Brooke Konz, bringing additional expertise in advanced surgical techniques and robotic surgery. Dr. Christen’s role with Sioux Center Health is made possible through a partnership with Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, supporting continued collaboration and growth in surgical services across the region.
Dr. Christen brings extensive training in general surgery and a strong academic foundation in both medicine and biomedical engineering. She earned bachelor's degrees in Biology and Chemistry from Utah State University, a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Utah, and her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Utah School of Medicine before completing her General Surgery residency at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Her academic achievements have been recognized through numerous honors, including the prestigious Robins Legacy Award—one of Utah State University's highest honors.
Dr. Christen is trained in da Vinci robotic surgery, complementing Sioux Center Health's investment in robotic technology and expanding surgical options available to patients. Her clinical interests include robotic and minimally invasive surgery, hernia repair, breast surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, surgical oncology, and women's surgical care. She is passionate about improving access to specialized surgical services for patients in rural communities.
"We're excited to welcome Dr. Christen to Sioux Center Health," said Cory Nelson, CEO. "Her training and experience in surgical care are valuable additions to our already exceptional surgical team. Bringing talented providers like Dr. Christen to our organization strengthens our ability to meet the evolving needs of our patients. Our continued investment in our people, along with the technology and resources they use, allows our providers to deliver excellent care while creating a positive experience for our patients and their families.”
Dr. Christen and her husband are excited to make Northwest Iowa home, along with their four children. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, staying active, reading, home renovation projects, spending time with her family, and exploring all that Iowa has to offer.
