Cardiology is the medical field that focuses on the heart and blood vessels. Cardiologists diagnose and treat heart conditions like high blood pressure, heart attacks, irregular heartbeats, and more in adults and pediatric patients. They help keep your heart healthy through tests, treatments, and ongoing care.

You should talk to your primary care provider about seeing a cardiologist if you experience any of the following:

• Chest pain, pressure, or discomfort
• Dizziness, fainting, or unexplained fatigue
• Family history of heart disease or sudden cardiac events
• High blood pressure or high cholesterol
• History of smoking, diabetes, or other risk factors for heart disease
• Irregular heartbeat or palpitations
• Referred by your primary care provider for further evaluation or testing
• Shortness of breath, especially with activity or while lying down
• Swelling in the legs, ankles, or feet
