Sleep Medicine
Struggling with sleep can affect every part of your life — from your health and mood to your relationships and daily performance. Our fully accredited Sleep Center is here to help you find answers and relief. If sleep apnea or another disorder is suspected, a single overnight test may provide the diagnosis you need to begin treatment right away. Your results are reviewed by a board-certified sleep physician, who works closely with your provider to ensure you receive thoughtful, effective care. Because when you sleep better, you feel better — and life feels brighter.
If restful nights have been out of reach, talk to your provider about a referral for a comprehensive sleep study.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, approximately 50-70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders and problems, but unfortunately, due to a lack of awareness and education, over half of them remain undiagnosed or untreated.
Sleep Services Offered at Sioux Center Health
When your sleep concerns need a closer look, an in-lab sleep study offers the most comprehensive evaluation. You’ll spend the night in a comfortable, private room at our ACHC-accredited Sleep Center, where advanced equipment quietly monitors your breathing, brain activity, heart rate, and more while you sleep. A caring sleep technologist is on-site throughout the night to ensure your safety and comfort. This type of study is ideal for diagnosing complex sleep disorders like sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, narcolepsy, and more.
For many patients, a home sleep study offers a convenient first step toward better sleep. With a take-home device, you can track key sleep patterns like breathing and oxygen levels from the comfort of your own bed. It’s an effective option for diagnosing mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea. After the study, your results are reviewed by a board-certified sleep physician and shared with your provider to create a personalized care plan.
Sleep Study FAQs
A sleep study is a non-invasive test that helps diagnose conditions that affect your sleep, such as sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, insomnia, and more. If you're experiencing symptoms like loud snoring, gasping during sleep, constant fatigue, or trouble staying asleep, your provider may recommend a sleep study to get to the root of the issue — and help you feel like yourself again.
An in-lab study provides a detailed look at your sleep in a controlled environment with advanced monitoring equipment and overnight support from a sleep technologist. A home sleep study is done in your own bed using a portable device. It's best for evaluating suspected sleep apnea. Your provider will help determine which option is right for you based on your symptoms and health history.
You’ll receive detailed instructions before your sleep study, but in general, you’ll want to avoid caffeine and naps the day of the test. Bring comfortable sleepwear and anything you need for your nightly routine. For home studies, you’ll be shown how to use the equipment.
After your sleep study, a board-certified sleep physician will carefully review your results. They’ll send a full report and treatment recommendations to your referring provider, typically within a few days. From there, you’ll work together to create a care plan that helps restore your sleep — and your quality of life.

Inspire
Inspire Therapy is a treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients who can't tolerate or get relief from CPAP machines.
Inspire Therapy is a small device that is implanted under the skin, usually in the chest and neck area. It works by gently stimulating a nerve that controls your tongue and airway muscles, keeping your airway open while you sleep.
- It is turned on at night using a handheld remote.
- The stimulation is synchronized with your breathing.
- There is no mask or hose, unlike CPAP.
It is typically for adults with moderate to severe OSA who have not had success with CPAP therapy. Dr. Sarah Powell performs Inspire implantation procedures through the Sioux Center Health Specialty Clinic.
