Sioux Center Health Introduces da Vinci 5 Robotic Surgical System

Sioux Center Health Brings the Future of Surgery to Northwest Iowa with da Vinci 5

Sioux Center, Iowa, October 31, 2025 – Sioux Center Health proudly announces the acquisition of the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, the most advanced surgical robot available today. With this addition, Sioux Center Health continues to lead the region in cutting-edge surgical innovation — expanding to the da Vinci 5 robotic system after being the first in the area to offer the Mako robotic assisted surgery.

The da Vinci 5 system represents a major leap forward in minimally invasive surgery, offering surgeons enhanced precision, control, and visualization. Sioux Center Health is also the first rural location within the Avera system  to bring the groundbreaking da Vinci 5 technology to patients.

Dr. Nicholas Mouw and Dr. Brooke Konz will be performing robotic-assisted surgeries using the new system.

“This is going to make a number of the operations I normally do substantially better,” said Dr. Mouw, surgeon at Sioux Center Health. “It will also open the avenue for a couple of other operations I currently don’t do or do on a very limited basis.”

The da Vinci 5 enhances the surgeon’s ability to perform complex procedures with smaller incisions, potentially leading to less pain, faster recovery times, and reduced risk of complications for patients.

Sioux Center Health CEO, Cory Nelson, shared, "We are excited to bring this new technology to the region for our patients and surgical team. Having the cutting-edge equipment and skilled professionals right here at home provides access to the highest quality care and best outcomes possible for the people and communities we serve."

With both the Mako robotic system and the da Vinci 5 Sioux Center Health continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing state-of-the-art care close to home. These technologies underscore the organization’s dedication to offering patients the very best in medical innovation, safety, and surgical precision.

“I think clearly this is where surgery is going,” said Dr. Mouw. “This is the next step in surgery – and the machinery keeps improving, the ability of the machine keeps improving, and this [da Vinci 5] is top of the line.”

Beyond the technology, Sioux Center Health’s true strength lies in the expertise and steady hands of its surgeons. The da Vinci 5 is a remarkable tool — but it’s the skill, precision, and compassion of physicians like Dr. Mouw and Dr. Konz that bring it to life. Together, advanced innovation and exceptional care ensure that Sioux Center Health continues to deliver on its mission of bringing hope, health, and healing to life for every patient in the region.
