About Dr. VanderKooi

Seeing patients in Sioux Center

Dr. Shannon VanderKooi is a board-certified Family Medicine physician and obstetrician at Sioux Center Medical Clinic, where she provides full-spectrum care to patients of all ages. A Sioux Center native and Dordt University graduate, she earned her medical degree from Des Moines University and completed her residency at the Sioux Falls Family Medicine Residency Program. During a meaningful clinical rotation at Sioux Center Health, Dr. VanderKooi felt a clear calling to return home and care for the community that helped shape her.

Deeply rooted in Sioux Center — she was a Van Der Berg before becoming a VanderKooi — Dr. VanderKooi is passionate about walking alongside patients through every stage of life. As an obstetrician, she especially loves supporting new mothers, guiding them through pregnancy, delivery, and early parenthood with care and encouragement. Whether she's delivering babies, treating chronic conditions, or helping families navigate their health journeys, she brings a thoughtful, relationship-centered approach to every visit.

Outside the clinic, Dr. VanderKooi enjoys singing, playing piano, and spending time outdoors with her husband, Nick. She’s often found fishing with her family — though she’s more than happy to let someone else handle the fish! Living in Sioux Center near her parents and two brothers, she treasures the tight-knit community she calls home. Her faith plays a central role in her life, serving as a daily reminder of purpose and trust in her calling as a physician.
